What is Ksharasutra?


Ksharasutra is a medicated thread. It is coated with various herbal medicines. Usually 21 coating are applied on the thread.

 

Is Ksharasutra like a Seaton? Yes or No.


It is basically a thread; hence it is similar to a Seaton. However its mode of action is very different. The Ksharasutra is much more than Seaton. The different drugs coated on the Seaton perform different action like curating the track gradually, keeping the track clean (avoiding infections), helping the healing process. The thread itself keeps the track open and hence facilitates proper drainage. It also acts as a vehicle the herbal drugs used to treat the disease.

 

How long does it take for the Fistula-in-ano to heal?


The duration of the treatment depends mainly upon the length of the track and also upon the root. Diseases like diabetes, Crohn’s, tuberculosis, carcinoma of the rectum etc. interfere with the normal healing process. Roughly speaking, the unit cutting rate of the Ksharasutra is about ½ to 1 cm per week. Hence if the track is 6cm long, it could take 10 weeks to heal.

 

Is the Ksharasutra procedure painful?


The initial procedure/surgery is performed under anaesthesia. There is some pain after the procedure; pain management is efficiently done with the help of medicines.

 

Is an anaesthesia administered every time the thread is changed?


No, changing the thread is an outdoor procedure requiring only 10 minutes. No anaesthesia is needed. There will be some burning sensation at the time of change. This will however subside after a few minutes.

 

Will I have any difficulty during defecation (when passing the stool) when the thread is in fistulous track?


No, You will pass a stool normally.

 

What if I have along fistula and want to take Ksharasutra treatment from you but cannot stay for a long period in your city, neither can visit your place every week?


In out station cases where it is unable to visit us every week, we provide the required no. of Ksharasutra and video Cd of the procedure to change the Ksharasutra (these are provided to only those patients who have been treated/operated at our hospital). The changes of Ksharasutra can be performed by any surgeon, proctologist, Ksharasutra specialists who concedes to do so.

 

Where besides your hospital can one get Ksharasutra treatment?

What is the cost of the Ksharasutra treatment?


There is no fixed package. Charges vary accordingly to the size, length, complexity, and route of the track complications due to associated disease if any.

 

What facilities are available in the hospital?


You can get a good, clean, ventilated AC rooms with attached bathroom and English toilet. The paramedical staff is qualified, cordial, understanding and helpful. They may not understand foreign language. Alternatively you may stay in the any hotel of your choice, budget after 24 to 48 hours (depending upon your conditions) of the operation.

 

when and what can I eat after the operation?


Water, other liquids are given after the effect of the anaesthesia wear off. If you are not suffering from nausea or vomiting, soups fresh, soft easily digestible vegetarian food can be taken on the same day. From the next day normal diet is advisable. You may be asked to avoid certain food items.

 

Can I sit in the normal position after the procedure?


Most patients are able to sit in the normal position from the day after the procedure.

 

If I am foreigner, how can I get an appointment?


You can mail your details – medical history, scan copies of your reports etc. and ask for a suitable date. You need to mail scanned copy of your passport before getting a confirmed appointment. On request a letter may be provided to you conforming your medical condition and requirement to stay in the country for specific time. This helps in visas on medical grounds.
