What are hemorrhoids?
Essentially, hemorrhoids are swollen pieces of blood vessels in anus and lower rectum that cause extreme discomfort. The main cause behind this swelling is that the veins grow, and their walls get stretched, thin, and rushed while the stool is being passed. There are two types of hemorrhoids; namely, internal (originating in the rectum) and external (originating in the anus). There are several stages of piles that you must know of. Continue reading this article to know the various stages and treatments for each stage provided by Shreyas Ano-Rectal Hospital and Research Center, the best piles treatment hospital in India.
What are the four main stages of hemorrhoids?
-
Stage I
First-degree hemorrhoids refer to a condition when the hemorrhoids bleed, but there is no sign of any prolapse. Though the hemorrhoids are slightly enlarged than usual, they do not bulge outside the anus. In the types of hemorrhoids, pain is the least.
-
Stage II
Second-degree hemorrhoids refer to a condition when hemorrhoids prolapse. This means that they start to retract on their own. There may or may not be bleeding in this stage. Passing of stool can be particularly painful because hemorrhoids may bulge out of anus during the defecation and then retract into the body.
-
Stage III
Third-degree hemorrhoids refer to a condition when hemorrhoids prolapse and they need to be pushed back into the body physically.
-
Stage IV
Fourth-degree hemorrhoids refer to a condition when hemorrhoids prolapse they can’t be pushed back through the anal canal. There is a high chance of developing blood clots known as thrombosis. On the other hand, they may pull the rectum lining, causing severe pain.
